Township Finances

How are Township Taxes Determined ?
Each year on the 2nd Tuesday in March, following the Township election, the Township residents gather for the Annual Meeting. At that time, the Township supervisors step aside and a moderator is selected from among those in attendance at the meeting.

The moderator calls for information as to the past spending practices of the Township and recommendations from the Town Clerk, Treasurer and Supervisors as to future requirements.

Preliminary figures are discussed for the 3 major categories, Road and Bridge, Fire Protection and General Fund and the meeting is generally continued until September at which time final figures are due to the County Auditor.

At the September Meeting, the residents once again vote on the final levy amounts for the 3 Funds to be forwarded to the County Auditor for the next years taxes.

Annual Financial Reports

Because of our population and the amount of our annual levies, Credit River is required to have it's finances audited on an annual basis. We have chosen, Eide Bailly, a firm with considerable experience in government bookkeeping to do our annual audit work. Links at the right will connect you to the year end reports for 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Using an online tool developed by the Office of the State Auditor, citizens can now easily look up the finances of their township. The tool allows users to access financial information for any township in the state. Users can also compare the financial information of individual townships. This feature is in addition to the financial information for counties, cities and school districts that is also available for review by citizens on the State Auditor's website.
